The Result
The bespoke exhibition was designed to fit the circular space, with brightly coloured, Hundertwasser inspired panels conceived of by Story Inc but brought to life by local weavers, surrounding a central pou that reaches through to the upper floor. The visitor is transported to a world of Hundertwasser related content, with printed images, projections and touchscreens containing images and video of the community’s stories of Hundertwasser – the man, the artist, the ecologist.
Between 2019 and 2020 Story Inc contributed to the design for Te Hononga, a Hundertwasser-inspired community hub, in the Far North town of Kawakawa in New Zealand.
The circular rammed earth construction includes a public library, council service centre, an art gallery, interpretative centre and community workshop spaces.
Story Inc was responsible for the design and installation of the interpretive centre honouring the late Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, who made the town his home and whose world-famous public toilets are credited with reversing the town's decline.
